Thing to do if you ever find yourself traveling through Lake Havasu City, AZ

When most people think of Lake Havasu City, they think of spring break festivities, boat parties, and the famous London Bridge. However, just a few miles outside of the city are some fantastic desert trails, slot canyons, wild life, and camp sites.

There are no shortage of camp sites in the area but our favorite one is Cattail Cove State Park. This camp site has everything you could need or want (i.e., electricity, clean restrooms/showers, beautiful beach, boat launch, etc.) in a camp site. Plus, there are great hiking trails that start right at the camp site and wind along the picturesque blue waters of Lake Havasu.

A few other trails and hikes we’d recommend include:

Sara' Crack Trail

In our opinion, this trail is a must-do hike. This trail winds through a narrow slot canyon where smooth sandstone walls twist and curve. At times, you’ll have to squeeze through cool, shaded passageways, climb over boulders, and eventually emerge at a hidden cove along the lake. This is the natural halfway point and is a perfect spot to cool off in the lake or take a snack break. There are also plenty of picnic areas at the trail head in case you want to prepare a meal before of after hiking.

If you’re looking to slow down a little bit, there is a terrific park, Rotary Park, right in town. Some of its features include beach & swimming areas, walking/running/jogging paths, play grounds, picnic areas, etc. We love packing up the Chuck Box and cooking a meal down on the beach.

Lastly, after a day of hiking, don’t forget to reward yourself with a dip in the lake, a cold drink at a waterfront restaurant, or a stroll across the historic London Bridge. Lake Havasu City offers plenty of adventure and small-town charm!
